Greenlight Transcription: Our Story
My name is Suzanne Mattson, owner of Greenlight Transcription. Many people have asked me about how my company got started, how we came up with the name, and so I thought I’d tell you all a bit about it.
It was back in 2003 I gave myself the “green-light” to formally launch my business.
I’d been working as a start-up since 1998, holding a part-time job in the IT industry, going to school, and raising my family. My goal from the outset of beginning my transcription service was simple: Provide accurate, timely, affordable transcription while utilizing the latest easy to use technology — and always exceed my client’s expectations.
I wanted my company name to be unique and easy to remember. My first choice was Redlight Transcription – based on the colors of flashing emergency lights. I wasn’t thinking about the connection to “red-light districts,” but my husband was. When he (kiddingly) asked if I gave lap-typing dances, I changed the name to Greenlight Transcription.
The hours were long, but I was having fun…until chronic, mind-numbing fatigue set in. I finally went into my doctor, certain I had some horrible illness and would end up in my own reports. My doctor told me I was a perfectly healthy, completely exhausted mother of three who shouldn’t be working 80+ hours a week. I realized I needed to choose one career and stick with it.
I took a break from school, quit my IT job and chose Greenlight. It’s exhilarating and scary to start your own business, but I have never looked back.
Today we employ more than 40 transcriptionists nationwide. We are also members ATAUS (American Transcription Association www.ataus.org) and believe in the accuracy, security, and job creation that comes with hiring only Americans to type your reports.
Although we’ve grown and changed over the years, from tapes to digital, from one exhausted mom typing to 40+ workers coast to coast, the one thing that will never change is our goal to provide accurate, affordable, timely transcription — that exceeds our client’s expectations.
